In this post, I want to talk about why we use special lighting on my face when I’m on video. And it’s not to look younger!
Photographers need to use bright, even light on my face because it removes distracting shadows and that’s the best way to demonstrate the product.
But if you think my face always looks like this think again! And in my video, I even show you two photographs I took when I wasn’t in the modeling studio…
Wrinkles and all!
So I’m gonna tell you a little bit about lighting and why we use this type of lighting when we’re shooting videos or photographs, and it’s so you can actually see the product.
If it’s a face, hair, sweater, or whatever, the photographers need to eliminate shadows because they’re extremely distracting. And if you’ve ever done a selfie in dappled sunlight under a tree with the leaves, you’ll see that it’s very, very hard to get consistency because the camera reads the dark as super dark and the light as super light.
So they light us very evenly so you can see everything and there’s nothing distracting. Well, the side effect is it takes away all shadows and seeing shadows is how you see the texture.
So that’s why you’re not seeing the texture of my skin because of the way the light is taking away all the shadow. But I’m gonna show you a photograph with lots of shadows, and you’re gonna see what I look like in another type of light.
